Hello! Thank you for navigating to my page, firstly I just want to tell you a little about myself…
In September this year (2021 for those reading from the future) I started a Nutritional Therapy course at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition, in conjunction with Portsmouth University. This is a four year BSc course and will mean that I can practice as a Nutritional Therapist post course.
A few things led me to join this course, back in 2013 I got a diagnosis of IBS and at the time was given a whole load of medication to take. I have never been a fan of taking medication so started my own research into how to manage it. I found out about the low-FODMAP diet and lifestyle changes, such as managing stress. Over the years my symptoms lessened and I am now at a point where I occasionally have to take Buscopan but other than that I am pain and mostly symptom free.
Similarly it was a diagnosis of PCOS, in 2015, that led to more research into diet and lifestyle which furthered my interest in how food can influence the body.
After a tough year at work I felt at a crossroads with my career, not knowing what to do next. So after a long discussion with my partner he supported my decision to take the plunge back into education. And what a plunge it has been! Having done 1 and a 1/3 of degrees before I knew what level of work was expected but I wasn’t quite prepared for just how much science there was. It seems crazy looking back because what did I expect really! However, despite it being a huge learning curve I am massively enjoying the content and find it all so fascinating. I really feel like I have found my calling.
So my plan is to use this blog to solidify my knowledge and create content for people to access who want to improve their health and wellbeing. I’ll be looking at the root causes of illness and disease, how the body works, creating recipes, and debating health and wellbeing topics. I do hope you will join me in this journey! π
